What's It Actually Like in Springfield Township (Montgomery County)?

Villages, not separate towns

Wyndmoor, Erdenheim, Flourtown and Oreland are villages inside one township. They each have their own mailing identity and their own feel, but they share one municipal government and one school district.

Right on the Philadelphia line

The township borders Chestnut Hill in Northwest Philadelphia. For buyers moving out of the city, it is often the first suburban township on the list — close-in, but with township taxes and services rather than Philadelphia's.

Two different rail lines nearby

Wyndmoor station sits on SEPTA's Chestnut Hill East Line at East Willow Grove Avenue, and Oreland station is on the Lansdale/Doylestown Line at Bridge Street. Which line you'd use depends on which village you're in.

What are property taxes like in Springfield Township (Montgomery County)?

A Montgomery County property tax bill generally combines three separate taxes — county, municipal and school district — applied to the county assessed value of that individual property. Assessments, exemptions and millage rates differ by property and are set each year, so the only reliable number is the one for the specific address. Ask for the current tax detail on any home you're considering and verify it with the county and the taxing bodies. This is general information, not tax or legal advice.

What you'll actually find in Springfield Township (Montgomery County)

Housing runs from older detached and twin homes in the Wyndmoor and Erdenheim areas nearest the Philadelphia line to mid-twentieth-century detached subdivisions in Flourtown and Oreland, with some townhouse and condominium development mixed in. Age, systems and lot size vary noticeably from village to village.

The local detail people miss

Two Springfield Townships in the Philadelphia suburbs

Springfield Township, Montgomery County — Wyndmoor, Erdenheim, Flourtown, Oreland — and Springfield Township, Delaware County are separate municipalities in separate counties, each with its own school district and tax bill. Search results, listing sites and casual conversation mix them up constantly. Confirm the county on any "Springfield" address before you compare anything.

The Springfield Township (Montgomery County) Tradeoff

No town fits every search. Here's the honest version of both sides.

Why buyers consider it

  • Confirm the county first

If a listing says "Springfield Township," verify whether it's Montgomery or Delaware County. Everything else — schools, taxes, services — follows from that.

  • Pick your village

Wyndmoor, Erdenheim, Flourtown and Oreland differ in housing age, layout and which train station is closest, even though they share one township.

  • Watch the shared place names

Lafayette Hill, Fort Washington, Laverock, North Hills, Miquon and Glenside are only partly inside the township. The mailing name does not settle the municipality.

What you should know

  • The honest tradeoff

A suburban township directly against Chestnut Hill with two Regional Rail lines nearby Much of the housing is older and close-in, so lots and systems need a closer look

  • The honest tradeoff

Four distinct villages under one township government and one school district The shared "Springfield" name is easily confused with Delaware County's township

  • Check the house itself

Confirm which village and which side of the Philadelphia line an address is on
