SEPTA's Wilmington/Newark Regional Rail Line runs through the area with stations including Ridley Park, Crum Lynne and Eddystone, giving parts of the area a direct ride into Center City.
Much of the area was built out in the early-to-mid twentieth century, so twins, rowhomes and modest detached homes sit on established blocks rather than in newer developments.
Buyers searching "Ridley" are usually looking at several different places at once. Knowing which one an address is actually in changes the taxes, the local government and sometimes the school district.
Ridley Township
The largest of the three, and the municipality that contains most of the everyday place names buyers see in listings.
Ridley Park Borough
A separate borough with its own government and its own SEPTA Regional Rail station — not part of Ridley Township.
Eddystone Borough
A separate small borough along the river, also served by the Ridley School District and by its own Regional Rail station.
Folsom and Woodlyn
Unincorporated communities inside Ridley Township. They are mailing and place names, not municipalities of their own.
Holmes and Crum Lynne
Also unincorporated communities within Ridley Township, each with its own mailing identity.
Secane
Split: part of Secane is in Ridley Township and part is in Upper Darby Township, and the two sides fall in different school districts. Verify the address before assuming either.
Because place names, ZIP codes and municipal lines do not match up here, always confirm the municipality and school district for the exact address rather than the town name on the listing.

The stuff I'd want you to know before we started looking at houses here.
Ridley Area spans more than one municipality, so the district changes with the address: Ridley School District. Verify the exact school assignment for the specific property address before you buy.
A Delaware County property tax bill generally combines three separate taxes — county, municipal and school district — applied to the county assessed value of that individual property. Because assessments, exemptions and millage rates differ by property and are set each year, the only reliable number is the one for the specific address. Ask for the current tax detail on any home you're considering and verify it with the county and the taxing bodies. This is general information, not tax or legal advice.
The Ridley area's housing is mostly early-to-mid twentieth century: twins and rowhomes on compact lots, along with detached homes and Cape Cods. Condition, systems, parking and block matter more than architecture in separating one home from another.
The local detail people miss
Folsom, Woodlyn, Holmes and Crum Lynne are communities inside Ridley Township, while Ridley Park and Eddystone are their own boroughs. Secane straddles two townships and two school districts. Verify the municipality and district by address every time.
No town fits every search. Here's the honest version of both sides.
Identify the municipality first
Township, Ridley Park Borough and Eddystone Borough each have their own taxes, permits and resale requirements.
Verify the school district for split areas
Secane in particular is split between Ridley Township and Upper Darby Township with different districts on each side.
Inspect for the age of the stock
Most homes here predate 1960, so roofs, systems and basements deserve close attention.
The honest tradeoff
Direct Regional Rail access and close-in location for the price Older housing stock and denser blocks than farther-west Delco
The honest tradeoff
A shared, well-known school district across three municipalities Confusing municipal and place-name boundaries that require address-level verification
Check the house itself
Roof, heater and electrical service age in pre-1960 homes
